Summary

  • Bump ESP-IDF from v5.5.3 to v5.5.6 (latest 5.5.x bugfix release).
  • Update dependencies: firmware to esp-idf-svc 0.53 / esp32-nimble 0.13 (esp-idf-hal 0.47, esp-idf-sys 0.38.1); host to toml 1.1; plus semver-compatible lockfile updates.
  • Drop the esp-idf-sys git patch. esp-idf-sys now lives in the esp-idf-hal repo and comes in through that patch, so Cargo reported it as unused.
  • Document how to update the ESP tooling (CLI tools, esp toolchain, ESP-IDF, esp-idf-* crates) in the README.

Existing checkouts need a cargo clean in firmware/ after pulling. Otherwise the CMake cache keeps the v5.5.3 compiler and the build fails with "Tool doesn't match supported version".

Testing

  • Host: cargo build, cargo test --workspace pass
  • Firmware: cargo build --release passes against ESP-IDF v5.5.6
  • Flash to the board and check IR learning, BLE pairing and key sending
